Illness and Injury
Illness and Injury
Illness and injury are bound to happen in athletics. Our wrestling program wants to help support you and keep you healthy and able to participate. We want you on the mat! If you are sick or injured you need to make sure to get the proper attention. Step one is contact your coach! Here are a few things you need to know.
- Step one is to contact your coach before missing practice or an event to let them know what is going on.
- Step two is to seek the proper medical attention.
- We need athletes to communicate if they go to the doctor. The coach and the school trainer need to be notified.
- Our school trainer is Jessica Slavik and is employed by CentreCare in Willmar. Athletes can be seen by her free of charge and she can communicate with doctors at the clinic to get the best care needed and refer them to PT or ortho quicker than calling the clinic yourself.
- For illnesses, skin issues, and major injuries, you should go to the doctor. For other injuries you should see Jessica first and we (coaches, athletes, trainer) can make a decision for the athlete so they aren't furthering their injury or missing time from wrestling if it's unnecessary.
- If you go to a doctor (or chiropractor) for injury you NEED a note of clearance to return to practice. There are two forms you need to use (Injury or Skin Infection)
