Trap Shooting

Join the fastest growing high school sport in Minnesota!

Please join us on February 24th at 6:00pm in the Willmar Senior High cafeteria for an informational meeting and to sign up for the spring 2025 season. Spring registration closes on March 23, 2025.  This is a MN State league deadline, and they will not allow any late registrations.

This is a great program for students to participate in shooting sports in a friendly and safe environment.  All coaches are safety trained and eager to share their experience with the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts. This is also a great opportunity for students to compete in an environment where physical stature or physical handicaps do not determine success.

Requirements: Student must be in the 6th grade or 12 years old and complete a firearm safety course prior to the first week of shooting.  The league recognizes the MN DNR firearm safety certification or has their own version available on their website (SAFE Certification).

Season dates: We shoot Sunday afternoons at 2:00 from April 6th to May 17th.  The MN State Championship occurs in mid-June with dates announced mid-April.

Location: We shoot at the Willmar Trap Range next to the Willmar Brush Site and wastewater treatment plant (West of Willmar)

Cost: the cost for the season is $35 to join the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League and $275 to join the Willmar Trap Team.  The cost covers league and MSHSL registration fees, two cases of shotgun shells, Team T-shirt, and clay targets for season. Thanks to several local sponsors, the team is able to fund additional expenses not covered by the team fee.

We encourage young people of all skill levels to participate.  Even if you have never shot trap before, we have friendly coaches that love to introduce the sport to new participants!

College scholarships are available for team members that have participated for two years and compete during their senior year of high school.
